The
town of Newark
Newark is situated on the River Trent, the
East Coast mainline and at the junction of
the A1 and A46. Located half way between Lincoln
and Nottingham the town has in the past lived
a little in the shadow of its more sizeable
neighbours.
The town is beginning to thrive again in
certain areas and the growth in the business
activity seen in Lincoln in particular is
having spin-off benefits and the ongoing
upgrading of the A46 will improve the existing
road links. A major development is a national
distribution centre for Dixons Mastercare.
Undoubtedly this will lead to further expansion
on the same site and potentially this will
become a major industrial centre within
a short space of time.
The town is steeped in history and with
a Castle and attractive Market Place; the
local councils support tourism extensively.
As a traditional market town the entire
range of industry is evident, as one would
expect. However, Newark has a national reputation
for specialist industries especially food
and pine furniture manufacture. It is also
home to the world renowned Antiques Fairs
held each quarter at the Newark Showground.
