The
town of Louth
Louth is located on the River Lud 16 miles south of Grimsby on the A16.
Lying at the eastern edge of the Wolds it is a busy market town with a maze of narrow streets and predominantly Georgian and early-Victorian architecture. There are some notable historic buildings including the 15th-century St.James' Church whose 295ft high spire, the tallest in England, dominates the skyline. A large industrial estate to the north of the town now caters for new industries. The town has a population of around 14,200
Historically the town's economy was based upon agriculture with the town possessing what was one of the busiest cattle markets in the county, and today agriculture remains an important employer. The town also possesses a diverse range of manufacturing companies producing items from agricultural machinery to plastics, and electronic equipment to container products. |
