Mick Dawson – The successful crossing of the North Pacific

Mick, from Boston, has rowed almost 20,000 miles across some of the harshest ocean routes in the world. Two successful crossings of the Atlantic, the first with his brother and fellow former Royal Marine Steve Dawson in 2001 and four years later again; with Newark man Andrew Morris. These epic voyages inspired him to attempt the Everest of Ocean Rowing, The North Pacific.

Two solo attempts ended in disappointment, the latter within 1,500 miles of the American coast, when capsized by a freak wave and sunk. The third attempt starting in May 2009; with his friend and fellow ocean rower Chris, ended in spectacular success beneath the iconic span of the Golden Gate Bridge Friday the 13th of November 2009, 189 days, 10 hours and 55 minutes after the pair set off.
